Cooper's Hawk Winery and Restaurant offers an extensive, creative, gluten-free menu

Gluten-Free Blog

If you haven’t been there yet…..Cooper’s Hawk Winery and Restaurant is one of those places you will want to visit. Their gluten-free menu is quite extensive, so for those of us on the gluten-free diet that like to eat out on occasion, Cooper's Hawk will not disappoint you.

One of the things we love about Cooper's Hawk is  they bring gluten-free bread that’s warm and soft to your table. Their gluten-free bread is not made on site, but it’s made by a dedicated company called “OMG… It’s Gluten Free.”  The gluten-free bread crumbs and brownies are made by the same company.

Although, most of their wine is gluten free, with the exception of their Holiday Wine which is mixed with mulling spices that contain gluten, we do love the fact that you can ask to sample their wines. With flavors like blueberry, rhubarb and peach you are bound to find something that will entice you. I seem to navigate towards the sweeter fruitier wines, but there is a great selection of dry red and white wines too.  If you aren't sure which wine to order, each menu item is paired with a wine (bin number) that compliments your meal perfectly.

Cooper's Hawk takes special precautions when preparing your gluten-free meals. When you order something off the gluten-free menu an allergy ticket is born.

This allergy ticket goes to the front of the house manager and to the back of the house manager before the chef receives the info. Once the chef receives the info, he coordinates specific skillets and specific utensils that are only used for the gluten-free meals. Gloves are used and changed when handling gluten-free items. There is a specific area that is only used for gluten-free meal preparations and the gluten-free bread is never placed on a wooden bread board, it is always placed on a plate.

At one point we actually ordered something that was not on the gluten-free menu that we thought could be made gluten free….10 minutes later, the chef and the manager, Chad Blankenship were at our table to let us know that the Betty’s potatoes could not be made gluten free. Thank you Allergy ticket!

We do suggest making reservations to avoid waiting to be seated.

Here were some of the entrees we tried from the gluten-free menu and we should mention we loved everything!  Here’s the direct link to their gluten-free menu.

Blackened Ahi Tuna

Ahi seared in their special Blackening Spice.  This sushi-grade yellow fin tuna is served Rare with their Wasabi Sauce over a bed of Cilantro Citrus rice and Steamed Asparagus.

We loved this! Light and delicious!

Chicken Giardiniera

Chicken breast crusted with Gluten-Free Bread Crumbs and grated Parmesan. Served with their house made Giardiniera, Mary’s Potatoes and freshly shaved parmesan.

A large portion of chicken breast is served with this meal…this dish was a little on the spicy side but I loved it!

Broiled Fresh Filet of Grouper

Large filet of fresh Grouper, broiled with Lemon Butter and served with Mary's Potato's and Asparagus.

So good!

Cooper’s Hawk Chicken Piccata

Sauteed Chicken Breast served with Mary’s Potatoes and Asparagus.

Simple and classic! Delish!

Dana’s Parmesan Crusted Chicken

Chicken Breast Crusted with Gluten-Free Bread Crumbs and Grated Parmesan.  Served with Garlic Spinach, Mary’s Potatoes, Tomato Basil Relish and Lemon Butter. This dish has been one of our fave’s….this is the dish I always think of ordering when we go to Cooper's Hawk!

Filet Mignon

My husband raved about his filet….he requested it medium rare and said it was so good and so tender that you did not need a knife to cut into it.

Short Rib Risotto

Red Wine Braised Short Ribs Simmered with Carnaroli Rice, Mushrooms, Sweet Onions, White Wine, Shaved Parmesan and White Truffle Oil.  These were extremely tender, juicy with a great flavor.  This is definitely one to try.

Classic Cheeseburger

The cheeseburger was juicy, thick and grilled to perfection.  It had plenty of cheese with a side of BBQ and a large dish of fresh fruit including blackberries, strawberries, pineapple and oranges.

The menu offers a variety of gluten-free desserts including seasonal berries a' la mode, wine and chocolates, chocolate covered strawberries, truffles, chocolate brownie and creme brulee.  Here are the two desserts that we tried.  The truffles also come highly recommended.

 Chocolate Brownie

Rich and Chewie Brownie served with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, Chocolate and Vanilla Sauce from “OMG…it’s Gluten Free”

What can we say? The perfect ending to a delicious meal!

 Creme Brulee

A classic rich vanilla custard with a cracking sugar crust served with berries and powdered sugar.  It was excellent!

Gluten Free Mondays 10% Off at Cheeseburger in Paradise Fishers .... Drink Blog....... Drink Specials

Gluten Free Drink Blog
Most of us on the gluten- free diet know that regular beer is not gluten free. More and more beer companies are coming up with gluten-free beer options. Angry Orchard makes a gluten-free ale that you can now get on tap at Cheeseburger In Paradise. If beer is your choice they also offer Redbridge gluten-free beer.
Science tells us that many grain alcohols are gluten free because most alcohols like Vodkas, gins and whiskeys that may be grain based are distilled. During the distillation process the gluten molecule is too large to pass through, which makes it safe for those of us that are gluten intolerant. To read more about gluten free alcohols, here’s a link to Triumph Dining: http://www.triumphdining.com/blog/gluten-free-alcohol/
We understand that there are those out there on the gluten-free diet that are sensitive to grain based alcohols. We sympathize with you and this blog is in no way intended to encourage you to indulge in something that makes you ill.
At C.I.P we sampled some drinks that were gluten free.  We sourced the manufacturer alcoholic beverage companies to make sure that the ingredients contained in each of the alcoholic drinks we tried were gluten free. Please understand that ingredients are subject to change at any time. All the info you see below was updated to May, 2013.  Our last  C.I.P food blog, the Sweet Fire Chicken Sandwich is not listed on the gluten free menu as the sauce is no longer gluten free.  Dining Blog: http://glutenfreelivingnow.blogspot.com/2013/02/gluten-free-dining-in-paradise.html
C.I.P is glad to be able to accommodate our gluten-free community….they will be having

*All glassware is washed and sanitized. They do rinse out containers used to mix drinks with club soda. Mixed drinks that contain regular beer are used in separate mixing containers. Anything used in a shaker tin is generally gluten free. Make sure you check with management and the bartender to validate how drinks are prepared.

Here are the main ingredients used in the drinks we tried;
Bacardi Torched Cherry Rum: Taste of Barbados Cherries with a light infusion of torched plant Aloe.
Blue Curacao:   C.I.P uses Le Roux brand. Blue Curacao is a sweet blue gluten-free liqueur, distilled and flavored from the dried peel of bitter oranges. It can also contain distillates of lemons, curacao fruit, sugar and wine.
May, 2013 - We contacted Southern Wine and Spirits here in Indy, their rep told us that Coruba Rum is gluten free.
Cruzan Rum Products: Cruzan rum is gluten free, please click on the link to read more about their products.
Margaritaville Tequila: is the brand of tequila used in their margaritas.  This tequila goes down smooth without any burn and a great taste. For more information, click on the link.
We contacted Margaritaville and received their response in April, 2013.
They stated, "Dr Pepper Snapple Group products are free of gluten containing materials, with the exception of Mr. & Mrs. T's Horseradish Bloody Mary Mix.   For ingredient and other information about this product, please visit
www.dpsgproductfacts.com. This website lets you search for information on all of our products, and even compare nutritional information of different brands and flavors."
Midori: is a bright, green colored melon liqueur and this product is gluten free.
Monin: Flavored syrup that  C.I.P currently uses and this product is gluten free.  You may also visit: http://www.moninstore.com/FAQ.html.
Pina Colada: Contains coconut cream, pineapple juice, Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum, plus fruit juices and nectars.  These ingredients are gluten free.
Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum: Their rum is gluten free.
Sangria: Real Sangria is the brand used in drinks using frozen sangria. Simply Naked Chardonnay is used in the Blackberry sangria.
Skyy Vodka: This is gluten free. We did receive a message from their rep to indicate that this product is gluten free when we checked in May, 2013.
Strawberry Daiquiri:  Sailor Jerry Rum, lime juice, flavored syrup, strawberries and water.
Sweet and Sour: C.I.P uses Finest Call brand. Sweet and Sour is a mix made of lemon or lime and syrup.
Triple Sec:  C.I.P uses Margaritaville Triple Sec or Cointreau. Triple sec is a strong, clear orange-flavored liqueur.  It is sweet, but not cloying. This product is gluten free.
X-rated Fusion Liqueur: Fusion of French Vodka and Sicilian blood orange, mingling with mango and passion fruit.  This product is gluten free and more information may be obtained by clicking on the link.
First up on the gluten-free drink list is:
Angry Orchard Ale on tap:
Light, crisp and slightly sweet, we all enjoyed a sample of this fruity ale.
Redbridge Gluten-Free Beer: This gluten-free beer is offered by the bottle at C.I.P.
Blackberry Sangria: This drink was one of our fave’s. It was light and fruity and did not have a strong alcoholic taste. Made with Simply Naked Chardonnay, fresh squeezed lemon juice and blackberry then topped with Fresca.

C.I.P Cocktail: Made with layers of Frozen Sangria, Margaritaville Tequila Margarita, Strawberry Daiquiri, Coruba Coconut Rum Pina Colada topped with a float of blue curacao.  This drink is refreshing, sweet and tart, and one of our faves!
Classic Margarita: Made with Margaritaville Gold Tequila and triple sec with a blend of fresh citrus juices, can be made frozen or on the rocks.  If you are looking for a strong margarita without being overpowering, you will love this drink!
Electric Lizard: Coruba Coconut Rum and Midori Melon liqueur mixed with lime juice, sweet and sour and Sprite.  For those who like a stronger drink, this would be your choice.
Euphoria:  Frozen sangria, Margarita and Strawberry Daiquiri layers garnished with Lizard lips.  We liked this Margarita.... very tropical!
Lady of the Sea: Layers of Frozen Sangria, Pina Colada and Strawberry Daiquiri garnished with Penelope Parrot. If you prefer the taste of a sweeter drink with a smoothie vibe this is your drink.
Pictured together below:  Pomegranate Mojito: Not listed C.I.P’s drink menu. You can still request this drink.  It is a light, refreshing with a hint of fruit drink that tastes great.
South Beach Mojito: Cruzan Mango Rum and X-rated Fusion Liqueur shaken with orange juice, limes and mint leaves topped with club soda.  We loved this drink for it's light and citrusy taste.
World Famous Pina Colada:  C.I.P’s signature Pina Colada recipe topped with Cruzan Aged Dark Rum. If you like Pina Colada's this is an excellent choice!
Strawberry Daiquiri: Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum blended with fresh strawberries and natural lime juice garnished with Berry Beth.  The rich strawberry taste made us fall in love with this fruity drink!
Torched Cherry Pina Colada: Layers of frozen strawberry and Pina Colada topped with a Bacardi Torched Cherry Rum float.  This is a drink we would order again.  It was tart and sweet with a tropical twist!
Special Thanks to the staff at Cheeseburger In Paradise (C.I.P).  They provided a lot of time, energy and information.
